The final meet before Cross Country sectionals was held at St. Croix
Falls on Monday, Oct 16. BW Hawks participated in the event.
Catherine Hennessy ran her personal best for the year at a time of 18:32, placing 12th overall from a field of 43 girls. Kristin Hovde also made a personal best time of 19:50, placing 25th in the varsity meet. Rachel Ungar placed 30th with a 21:18. Also completing the race were Heather Gunderson (returning from a weekís sideline with a cold) at 21:07 and Hillary Lindbom 23:16.
In the boys varsity race, Greg Lund lunged out to a surprising finish as the first Hawk to cross the line at 20:13. He was closely followed by Scott Schollmeyer at 20:21, and Aaron Peterson at 20:27. Fabian Knobloch ran a 20:35 and Nik Hovde finished for the Hawks at 21:25.
JV runners, some perhaps in there last race of the season, were Derek Lindbom at 22:52, Michael Russett at 24:48, AJ Hill at 25:03, Jerry Lindbom at 26:26, Duane Hovde at 26:53, and Michael Mentink at 26:59.
Two notables here are that Senior AJ Hill ran the last race of his high school career with his second best time. AJ will be attending college in North Dakota this time next year. Another notable is that Michael Mentink, whose personal goal was to beat 27:00, was just able to do so on Monday, coming from over 33:00 at the beginning of the season and shaving more than six minutes off his time in the 5 k race by the end of the season: a real achievement for Michael.
The final meet of the season will be on Saturday, October 21 at the Sectionals meet in Osceola. Only varsity runners will participate in that meet.
