Ellsworth
Hawks Cross Country traveled to Ellsworth on Tuesday night for the Ellsworth Invitational.
Girls Varsity placed 7th over all in a field of 10 teams at the meet. Catherine Hennessy led the Hawks team with a time of 19:43, followed by Kristin Hovde (21:21), Heather Gunderson (22:40), Rachel Ungar (22:53) and Hillary Lindbom (27:45). Cassy DeMotts and Rachel Albrightson were unable to compete due to injury.
Boys Varsity placed 7th in a field of 10 teams. The team was lead by Scott Schollmeyer with a time of 21:17. Aaron Peterson ran a 21:30. Aaron has been fighting a sore back this week, but ran well in spite of it. Fabian Knobloch, BWís German foreign exchange student, ran well at 21:30. Nik Hovde, one of BWís promising freshmen runners, came in at 22:09. Senior Tim Gartman completed the course in 22:15. Freshmen Greg Lund stumbled during the race and hurt his knee, managed to complete the race at 23:42. Luke Esanbock ran varsity for the Hawks with a time of 25:27.
JV Boys running at Ellsworth were Derek Lindbom (22:53), Michael Russett (23:41), Duane Hovde (24:38), Jerry Lindbom (25:35), AJ Hill (28:20), and the indefatigable freshmen Michael Mentink (28:28).
Unity
At Unity on September 29th the BW Hawks ran on a beautiful course along Balsam Lake. Girls Varsity placed 3rd in a field of eight teams at the meet. The Hawks were led by the speedy Catherine Hennessy with an 11th place finish and a time of 19:04. Catherine missed a medal in the meet by one place. Kristin Hovde made a good effort with a 19th place finish in 20:44. Heather Gunderson came in at 22:11 at 27th place, Rachel Ungar was 28th with 22:12, and Hillary Lindbom was 36th with a time of 26:11 in the 4000 meter event.
Boys Varsity ran well at Unity with a 5th place team score in a field of seven, edging out Webster and Unity. Osceola won the meet. Hawks Aces Scott Schollmeyer (22nd place, 20:39) and Aaron Peterson (29th place,21:39) lead the team, followed closely by Junior Fabian Knobloch (21:48), and freshmen Greg Lund (22:16), Michael Russett (22:37), and Nik Hovde (22:49). Derek Lindbom rounded out the varsity team with a time of 23:38.
JV runners also competed at this meet.Duane Hovde came in 6th place
with a time of 23:42 in the 5000 meter event. Luke Esanbock ran 7th place
with 23:54. Jerry Lindbom came in 11th with 26:53. Michael Mentink posted
a 12th place finish in 28:48.
Gruber Likely Out for the Season
In related news, Hawks runner Nathan Gruber has been unable to complete this year due to a chronic ankle injury. He is receiving treatment to strengthen his ankle, but will likely be unable to compete at all during the remainder of the Cross Country season.
The next Howks Cross Country meets with be at Amery on Oct. 3 and Bloomer on Oct. 5.
