The Annual Amery Invitational Cross Country meet was held on Oct.
3 at the Amery Golf Course just west of Amery on Cty F. BW runners participated
in the event which drew a large crowd of spectators to watch the runners
compete.
BW Boys varsity runners placed 8th in the large school division. The Hawks were lead by Scott Schollmeyer and Aaron Peterson with respective times of 20:46 and 20:52 for the 5000 meter course. Tim Gartman (21:09), Fabian Knobloch (21:40), Nik Hovde (22:02), and Michael Russett (23:16) also competed on the Varsity team.
Varsity girls were lead by Catherine Hennessy at 18:41, her best time of the season, in the girls 4000 meter race. Kristin Hovde also had a personal best of 20.02. Rachel Ungar was the third Hawk with 21:08, also a PR. Cassie DeMotts ran 22:59, and Rachel Albrightson, recovering from a foot injury, ran a courageous race for a time of 24:01.
In Boys JV action, Hawks runner Derek Lindbom lead the JV team with 22:41, a season best for Derek. Luke Esanbock ran 24:45. Matt McGee, recovering from ankle a knee problems, ran his first race of the season in a respectable 24:45. ìWe look for Matt to do much better in coming races,î said Coach HAmbleton, ìif he can stay healthy.î Duane Hovde ran 24:57, Jerry Lindbom 25:05, AJ Hill 26:43. Finally, Michael Mentink ran his best of the season at 27:55. Mentink's time has improved by over five minutes during the season this year in the 5000 meter race.
