Hawks Travel to Unity for MBC Cross Country


The Middle Border Conference Cross Country meet was held on Tuesday, Oct 17 at Unity High School just north of Balsam Lake. Amery, BW, Durand, Ellsworth, Osceola, St. Croix Falls, and Unity participated in the conference championship meet.

Amery Girls swept the field away for the girls varsity Championship, although Jenny Miller of Durand won the meet with a great time of 16:49. BW girls were running with 4 runners at the event, and so did not have enough runners to qualify as a full team. BW Sophomore Catherine Hennessy placed 22 out of 42 varsity runners with a time of 18:52. Kristin Hovde ran a 21:08, Rachel Ungar 21:09, and Cassie DeMotts came in at 22:31.

Varsity Boys Champion this year was Amery. Erik Teig of Amery also had the best time, coming in first place at 17:01 in the 5000 meter race. BW Hawks placed 6th out of seven in the meet, edging out Unity. Junior Scott Schollmeyer was the first Hawk to finish in 34th place out of 47 runners. His time was 20:59. Foreign exchange student Fabian Knobloch was the second Hawk with a 21:15. Aaron Peterson ran 21:35, Tim Gartman 21:44, Greg Lund also scored as fifth for the Hawks with 21:45. Nik Hovde came in at 23:22.

Running JV for the Hawks at the meet was Derek Lindbom at 23:07, Luke Esanbock at 24:29, Michael Russett at 26:17, Jerry Lindbom at 26:27, and Michael Mentink 29:02.

Two meets remain in the season. The Hawks will be running in St. Croix Falls on Moday, Oct 16, and the boys/girls varsity will be competing at the Sectionals meet in Osceola on Saturday, Oct 21.
